Christopher Harrington began his career balanced high above the sidewalk, drawing letters on the rough stucco of a San Diego storefront. Attracted to the mysterious beauty of calligraphy and alphabets, he apprenticed himself to a sign painter and learned to draw the popular typefaces from memory.

Chris eventually opened his own sign shop and spent the next decade mastering the principles of graphic design and typography. He was unaware, though, that painting letters by hand was about to reach its conclusion.

With the advent of the desktop computer, the design field was transformed. Chris left for Pasadena to learn the new ways at Art Center College of Design, where in addition to Copy and Paste, he happily immersed himself in art history, advertising, color theory, and copy writing.

After a rocky courtship, he grew to love the computer, which spawned a fascination with human-computer interaction and usability. Today he works without a ladder in a field unimaginable to that young sign painter.

Chris has served on staff and freelanced for numerous firms in Los Angeles and Seattle, including White & Associates, Corbis, Ted Mader, and others (résumé). In 1998, he cofounded Studio Prima, which specialized in brand identity and web design.

In 2006 Chris formed Usable Style, and continues to offer his clients the power of usability and stylish communication.
